21/09/2020 - The First Day

Today was my first day of vet school. I've never been so excited to go to school before, I was up at 6:30, raring to go. I'd packed my bag and my lunch the night before, so I was out the door bang on 7:30am for my 8:05 lecture. I can't believe I ever complained about 9am lectures before, what a luxury!

The building was a bit confusing - there was a huge gate in front of the door, and it was locked so we all milled around outside for a while waiting for someone to let us in. Turns out, we were stood at the wrong door but thankfully someone came around to correct us.

Histology and embryology was really interesting. We started by learning about microscopes and common and special stains for slides, and later in the afternoon we had a practical. The practical was much shorter than usual because we were learning to recognise what stains look like on slides.

Had my first ever Latin lesson today which was a bit rocky, but I think I just need to sit down for an hour or so and really learn what a declension means.

After lectures finished, Nicole, Liv and I went into town and sat at a cafe reviewing our notes, drinking coffee and relishing in our first day of vet school. First little step towards something we've all been dreaming about for years.

I bought a coin purse that looks like a hand today too. We've been getting the tram into town which is great fun but I'm accumulating lots of cents. I was a bit surprised to find a lot of places only take cash, so it's nice that I have a funny place to keep it all together.

We still don't have access to our student emails, moodle or the wifi though which is getting pretty tedious. We only have 2 weeks to sort out exemptions and I'd really like to start that sooner rather than later.
